YCT Receives NYSUT Community Service Award

NYSUT President Richard Iannuzzi has notified President Faigle that the YCT has been chosen to receive the prestigious Community Service Award. This will be the sixth award given to the YCT in the last seven years.

Last year, the Yorktown staff has contributed $2,600 to the Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, New York. To assist the victims of Hurricane Katrina, the YCT sent $1,250 to the American Red Cross and $3,407 to the Beaver Farm Conference Center of Yorktown Heights.

Another local organization, The Support Connection—which assists individuals and families affected by breast or ovarian cancer— received donations from the Yorktown staff which totaled $2,860. In addition, over 60 YCT members participated in the Support Connection’s fund-raising walk through FDR Park.

In its latest effort, the YCT conducted a drive to collect food and money for Yorktown Community Help. A full truckload of food was collected and sent to that organization, along with $1,200. An additional $500 was given to the Beaver Farm Conference Center.

YCT President Faigle congratulated YCT members on their commitment, work and generosity, which earned NYSUT’s recognition of their outstanding service. “The excellent performance of the staff in these efforts,” Mr. Faigle said, “represents a new high in our charitable giving and are emblematic of our membership’s continuing commitment to both Yorktown and the broader community that we serve.”

The award will be presented to the YCT delegates at the NYSUT R.A.

Convention, which will be held in Rochester, May 4-6.
